Apple has officially rolled out its completely overhauled version of Siri, marking the most significant upgrade to the virtual assistant since its debut in 2011. The new Siri is powered by a partnership with Google's Gemini AI model and arrives alongside the iOS 26.4 update.
The redesigned assistant introduces context-aware capabilities that allow it to understand what is happening on screen, maintain conversational memory across sessions, and perform multi-step tasks without repeated prompting. Users can now ask Siri to reference previous conversations, summarize on-screen content, and coordinate actions across multiple apps.
The Google partnership represents a notable shift for Apple, which has traditionally developed its AI capabilities in-house. By integrating Gemini's 1.2 trillion parameter model, Apple gains access to one of the most powerful language models available while maintaining its signature emphasis on privacy through on-device processing for sensitive data.
Early reviews have praised the improved natural language understanding and the assistant's ability to handle complex queries that previously required multiple steps or third-party apps. The upgrade positions Apple more competitively against rival AI assistants from Google, Amazon, and emerging startups.
Industry analysts view the launch as a validation of the partnership model for AI development, where even the largest technology companies are finding it more efficient to collaborate rather than build everything from scratch. The deal is reportedly worth several billion dollars annually to Google.
The update is available immediately for iPhone 15 and later models, with iPad and Mac support expected in the coming weeks. Apple said additional AI features, including advanced image generation and real-time translation improvements, will arrive in subsequent updates throughout 2026.
